Portal Cake is good. This is how you make it.
For The Cake:
- 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
(I like to add a tablespoon) - 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup kirsch (cherry liqueur) or cherry juice
